My Strenths
StrengthsQuest is a popular assessment tool designed to help individuals identify and leverage their unique strengths and talents. In my StrengthsQuest results, Ideation stands out as my picked strength, indicating my ability to effortlessly generate innovative and creative ideas. I enjoy becoming a problem solver, always brainstorming and coming up with novel solutions to complex problems.
Ideation makes me such an imaginative and sensitive person to identify the problem. Mentioning what’s the problem solves 50% of the problem. I’d like to be and able to be the one who asks questions in classes, the workplace, or even in daily life. The way I build my solution system is to ask why and, at the same time, focus on how. That’s why I’m so obsessed with computers and coding, which combine all the why and how in daily life. For each experiment in Physics 202( Physics based on calculus), I write down a customized Python calculator for the data. For Euler’s Method in Calculus 2, I imitated all the processes step by step. In Python class, I did way more than expected: try to analyze different tools and try different solutions for one question. I believe these experiences in solving subtle problems will prepare me to solve complex problems in the future.
People always see me as a very energetic person, who is very passionate about life. When they repeated the compliment again and again, I started thinking about how the energy showed on me. I summarize two points: 100% engagement and paying good attention to everything I need to do. There is a center for writing and speaking in our school, and we have a partner program which is a long-term project to help students improve their writing level. Before the first meeting with my writing partner, I carefully prepared three questions about her teaching style, what she wanted me to do before each meeting, and how we develop our writing skills during our meetings. From the deep inside, I know these details are essential to make people feel you pay attention to them and show your engagement. I believe this subtle behavior, such as actively asking the question all the time, putting more effort into homework, looking optimistic, and always giving a good solution, make me a very energetic person who pushes the team forward and encourage everyone in the team to push themselves.
However, I always choose the direct way to point out the key to problems, which is good for problem-solving. Even though my high-energy lifestyle attracts a lot of people, sometimes people get hurt by my direct way of communication. That’s why I want to keep improving my communication skills, which will help me to find a better way to communicate, considering more about people’s feelings. To do this, I plan to become a tutor next semester. As a tutor, if the tutee is already frustrated and upset, an inappropriate approach can make it worthwhile. So, I have to focus on how I tutor instead of what I tutor, which forces me to consider the way I speak and improve my communication.
